FAQ

AI search optimization questions

What is AI search optimization?

It is the work of making your site easy for AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews to find, understand and cite. It is often called AEO (answer engine optimization) or GEO (generative engine optimization).

Is it different from SEO?

It builds on SEO rather than replacing it. Crawlability, structured data and authority still matter. What changes is that answers are assembled from individual sections, so content has to be clear, specific and quotable on its own.

Should we block AI crawlers?

Treat search crawlers and training crawlers separately. Blocking search crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot keeps you out of those answers. Blocking training crawlers such as GPTBot is a business decision that does not affect Google AI Overviews.

How do we measure visibility in AI answers?

Track AI referral traffic in GA4, test a fixed set of buyer questions in each assistant every month, log when you are named or cited, and add an AI option to the how did you hear about us field on your forms.
